The first day of Tokyo Power Co., Inc.’s trial is held on
30th June. Three former exclusive managers including Tsunehisa Katumata are
expected to stand on the first trial hearing. They insist their innocence and
said, “ We could not predict the unfortunate accident.” This is the
historically first trial to accuse the managers of a power plant of a nuclear
accident.
The former vice presidents, Sakae Mutou and Ichiro Takeguro
are forced to stand on the court as well. They have been suspected to neglect
their duty to protect the local citizens from the possible nuclear accidents
caused by Tsunami.
According to the resolution written by the Committees for
the Inquest of Prosecution Headquarter, the TEPCO concluded that the 15.7-meter
Tsunami would hit Japan in 2008 by their provisional calculation based on the
data of earthquake prediction research in 2002.
Even if the court read the document of their provisional
calculation data Tokyo district court that the Fukushima citizens decided not
to accuse the exclusive managers by conclusion of that the prediction of the
tsunami was extremely difficult. However, the Committees for the Inquest of
Prosecution Headquarter resolve in June 2015 that TEPCO should be prosecuted
for the lack of their duty to avoid the disaster by their calculation. The
Prosecutors’ designated attorney forcefully indicted the exclusive managers in
February 2016.
This is the ninth prosecuted case since the first case in
May 2001.
In the indictment, the three exclusive managers neglected
their duty to prevent the citizens from the massive Tsunami attack. In the
result, their sloth caused the death to 44 patients from Futaba hospital.
