As the president of Democratic Party, Renho, who has a dual
nationality between Japan and Taiwan, decided to disclose a full copy of her
family register as the Japanese, her action caused controversy between among
other members in the Democratic Party and other. Some members criticized her
disclosure for being defeated by the antiforeignism, and blamed on other party’s members. Although
the president of a political party must be absolutely held accountable for
being clear with his nationality, her disclosure may cause a divide within the
party.
“Who tweeted about the disclosure of the copy? Name
yourself! Do you understand what you have done? You are helping Abe!”
The Upper House member, Yoshihu Arita apparently shouted out
in the twitter on Jul 11 to other members of the party. He also tweeted,
“Requesting for the disclosure is socially and historically wrong. It’s
bullying. You are blaspheme the fight against the discrimination against
outcast people which we have done so many years.”
He indirectly tweeted against two members in the same party,
the former Minister of Public Management, Kazuhiro Haraguchi, and the Lower
House member, Masato Imai. Haraguchi tweeted, “It‘s okay for everyone where he is born from and raised in. The
problem is that a foreigner works as a Japanese congressman.” Imai also pointed
out, “Democratic Party cannot run on the right track unless we ignore this
problem.”
Renho needed to decide to be clear with her nationality
anyway as a Japanese congressman in order to regain the trust from the nations
because she failed explaining the problem of her nationality and stood at the
press conference without the public document before.
Haraguchi argued against Arita in twitter on Jul 12, “I
assume Renho decided to finish her duty as a Japanese congressman. Some people
misunderstand the argument about the dual nationality between as a congressman
and as a resident.”
This argument occurs among people outside the Democratic
Party, the professor of Hosei University, Jiro Yamaguchi tweeted on Jul 11,
saying, “She should not disclose her
nationality. It’s a totalitarian county if she must prove her nationality in
her public activity and having a word in the public.”
The professor of Tokushima Bunri University, Kazurou Yahata,
also responded in the twitter on Jul 11, “I do not think any country allows a
suspicious man who hide his original nationality until now to be a congressman.
