The Japan Sumo Association held
a meeting to determine the rankings and an extraordinary meeting of the Nagoya
Grand Sumo Tournament in order to accept a 27 years old sumo wrestler from Tagonoura
stable, Sekiwake Takayasu, to be Oseki. Takayasu who waited for the messenger
from the association at a hotel in the city, declared, “I will make my best
effort for sophisticating Sumo as Oseki,” and showed his preparation to be it
as the representative of Sumo wrestlers.
A messenger, stable master
Kashugano arrived at the hotel for Takayasu after 9:30. Takayasu received the
promotion from the messenger, sitting on the zabuton with stable master.
In addition to 11 wins in the
first tournament in January and 12 wins in the spring in March, he got 11 wins
in this tournament. His total 34 wins compared to 33 wins in 3 tournaments
which are considered as a standard for promotion, and his outstanding win from
Yokozuna, Harumafuji, brought him to be promoted to Ozeki.
