China, Technology, and The U.S. Middle Class by Chrystina Freeland

The decline of the middle class is not only an economic issue, but it is also a political problem. 

David Autor, a MIT professor, encouraged the polarization of the social hierarchy between high and low classes. The middle class is dynamically declined. He also pointed out the feeble employment growth suddenly became crippled around 2001 and 2002.

In the major change in the U.S, technology and market are significant to explain the issue of the loss of middle classes. The technology played a very important role of a frontier of global market. However the domestic local market passed through a different path from the growing global economy. Ironically technology made a massive decline of the middle class in order to strengthen the global economy.

China was another huge impact of the loss of domestic local economy and U.S middle classes. U.S-China trade or free trade is not a great opportunity for the U.S as only giant global corporations can benefit from the global market. As the result, the middle class jobs were hollowed out in the U.S employment system even if there are an abundance of foodservice and finance in the lower class but not in the middle class.


Exporting the middle class job into China creates the large quantity of productivity which contribute the excellent income statement to stakeholders but it directly creates an unexpected economic hollow of the lost middle class jobs.

Although I don't want to blame on the Chinese because I have many Chinese American friends, I should warn on the website that many productions hide addressing their original manufacture in order to pretend to show the brand named location for their profitability. Many EU countries has the pride to produce their high qualified food production from their highly maintained land and cultural virtue. But, their reputation would be broken by a fake marked imported production of a certain country. They should show where exactly they got the raw materials for their customers and own credibility. According to an article, many tomato production, such as processed products, cans, etc., labeled, "made in Italy," on the production, but they use imported Chinese tomatoes and finalize the products at the factories in Italy. The Government finally moves on the issue.
